definition of bad is ‘not such as to be hoped for or desired; unpleasant or unwelcome’. So yes, I suppose in one sense, it can be said we can be said some of us are born bad.
Another definition of good is ‘of moral excellence;
upright; benevolent; kind’.Another of bad is ‘Evil; sinful; Disobedient; naughty’. In this sense the question proves to be more controversial.
The piece we’ve been asked to write about is whether we are born GOOD or BAD as if there is there is only good and bad there are no compromises or‘in-betweens’. This comes across as an extremely primitive idea, even Shakespeare knew that even the evil-ist of villains have good qualities in them. So how can a little tiny baby be either indefinitely good or indefinitely bad?
Well in my opinion, neither.
How can someone say whether a new born is good or bad? You certainly couldn’t judge by the way they sleep or how they totally depend on their mothers for survival. I know that people may believe they see aspects of good and bad in children from a very early age. And sure, one might be destined to head one way or another and that could be decided within the first few years, but it those few years they have already built up enough experience of life to see the basic principles of right and wrong, so can it really be said that it’s decided right from when they are born?
Are we not born blank canvases for the world to paint on?
It's true some people may believe babies are demons, waking up at all hours of the night, ‘making strange’ with anything new and different, using crying as an answer to every problem so that their parents must guess what is wrong with them, not to mention the pure evil that is changing nappies.
But yet whatever injustice people believe babies commit against them it is only fair to say this is the blissful ignorance of what being a baby involves. Perhaps it is true that babies inherit personalities traits from
parents, both good and bad but I think whether is someone ‘good’ or‘bad’ is predominantly based on the environment they grow up in, what they are taught to value and what they are taught are the boundaries of right and wrong. Or maybe they learn by doing the opposite of what they are taught as a form of rebellion
and independence from their childhood.
Either way, I don’t think we’re born one way or the other, contrary to what Lady Gaga believes.
