Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”, and I feel that many people forget that in this day and age. The world we live in is a scary place filled with hate crimes, terrorist attacks, bombings, shootings and pure hatred towards people. There is more hate than love.
The presidential election is coming up in a few weeks, and soon America will have its new president. There is hate radiating off and towards this race for presidency and it is as messy as ever. Even if Donald Trump doesn't become president, we have to remember that there is still people out there who have the same beliefs as him. People who are prejudice towards others. People who treat women as second class toys. People who are full of hate and aren't easy to convince otherwise. That is terrifying.
The refugee crisis is leading to more hate that ever, as people seek safety and comfort, basic human needs. These people travel across seas, walk miles through war zones, spend sleepless nights wondering if they’ll live to see the next day, only to be shut down at the last moment. People are dying to get to places that wont accept them in. That is terrifying.
Terrorist attacks have taken over our world.
Brussels, Belgium, 22nd March 2016. Three suicide bombers attacked Brussels airport and one at a metro 32 people were killed and over 300 were wounded.
Pulse Nightclub, Orlando Florida, June 12th 2016. Omar Mateen goes to the night club killing 49 and wounding 53 others in an LGBT+ hate crime.
Nice, France, Bastille day 2016. A truck driver drives through a busy street of celebrations with a 19 tonne cargo truck killing 86 people and wounding 434 others.
Rouen. France, July 2016. Two ‘IS militants’ storm into a small church in the north of France, killing Father Jacques Hamel and taking four hostages.
That. Is. Terrifying
I can go on and on, there were many this year, and its probably not the end of them. There is more hate than love, and that seriously needs to change.
I know its very morbid for a blog post on a school English blog, and I apologise I didn't mean for it to get this deep, but it needs to be talked about. It needs to stop, and we’re the only ones who can. We need to stand together and stop all this hate, all these crimes, with love. I’ll finished with what I started with, and I hope that this time it registers with more of you than it did at first, and I hope that people continue to put this quote into their heads and practise it every day.
