Last year, I made the U16 Waterford Ladies football panel. At the beginning, my aim was to get fit, make the starting team for every match and win an All Ireland. I was determined to succeed. I knew the training would be hard but my god, not that hard! I dreaded running laps upon laps of a GAA field every Wednesday and Saturday. We trained in weather from rain, sleet and hailstones to a blistering sun of 30 degrees. No matter what the weather, we trained. In the space of about eight months, we did approximately 75 training sessions.
Finally, all our hard work paid off. We made it to an All Ireland final which we went on to win. Although I complained alot and dreaded training, it all paid off in the end. We put in the work as a team and achieved the goal we had set out in the beginning. I got fit, and won an All Ireland like I said I would try to do. I did not make the starting team for the all Ireland, but I haven't given up yet, I have made the minor panel for this year and I am determined to be on the starting team. ''Do not give up, the beginning is always the hardest.''
