For me that was exactly the case… well to a certain extent. (I don’t tweet what I’m eating for my dinner everyday!)
Not everybody understands the attraction of twitter, but they don’t give the time to try understand. So that’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my blog post to the addictive website. If you’re considering joining twitter, or maybe just a little curious about the whole thing, I suggest you read this.
The majority of people can’t get their heads around the fact that you’d want to know what complete strangers have to say or why you’d want complete strangers ‘following’ you. It’s hard to explain to many people that you follow people with similar interests to you, whether that’s a singer, band or particular sport. You don’t just follow any random person you have nothing in common with. In my opinion, the whole “beware of strangers on the internet” thing has been blown way out of proportion. You just have to know how much information you should give out and know the right kind of people to talk to.
Yes, twitter is confusing, it’s not the easiest thing to understand, but with some time, you eventually get used to it. Sooner or later words like retweet and DM become a regular part of your everyday vocabulary.
Twitter, I believe is one of the best ways to learn about the whole wide world that’s out there. Personally, I’ve found people from close to home and formed friendships that will probably last me a lifetime. But I’ve also spoken to people from countries I’ve barely even heard of before. Twitter gave me the opportunity to learn a lot about other cultures and honestly it can be really interesting finding out what life is like for a sixteen year old girl from somewhere on the other side of the planet!
I’m sure other twitter users can relate to what I have said. And non-twitter users, if, after all that I have said you are interested in joining twitter… DON’T! It will ruin your life! You will spend hours refreshing the timeline, just because you don’t want to do anything useful; You’ll find yourself thinking of what you’ll tweet, about something good that has happened instead of actually enjoying it; You’ll spend ten minutes trying to fit a long tweet into 140 characters; And you’ll get stressed and upset because your idol won’t follow you! If the curiosity gets the better of you, then go for it, but after all “Ignorance Is Bliss!”
