According to my 11 year old sister, this year it was all about getting her new phone and all her ‘1D’ kit. I mean she got, a phone case, a hat, a hoodie, bed sheets, and even more, in all honesty who needs that much? Christmas is undoubtedly becoming more and more materialistic every year. Take for example the Christmas jumpers this year, the industry must have been booming! Practically everybody wanted or had a Christmas jumper. It may have, for them, given them the feeling of Christmas spirit but for me it’s about having my family around me.
I understand we all take advantage of Christmas, after all the most common phrase heard over the season is; “Ah shur its Christmas”. We self indulge in unnecessary things and expect an unrealistic amount from our parents don't get me wrong I've done it! A lot of us forget to take into consideration the important things that surround the season. This year for the first time in a long time I had all my relations from my mum’s side of the family home for Christmas. All together there are reaching one hundred if not more of us and I, myself, have never witnessed every one of us together in the same province never mind country! Unfortunately my Nanny and Grandad Foley couldn’t be here, but luckily for me I still have my dad’s family. Nothing means more to me than my family, and I live by the saying that ‘Blood is thicker than water’. I always spend my Christmas holidays with my family and my closest friends because that’s how I believe it should be done. People may think I’m a hermit..... But really I just love my families company.
