Rugby is a team sport, it requires fifteen players who all do a different job, from the forwards who bash, crash and push their way up the field to the backs who have the speed and agility to run the ball over that gain-line or indeed the try-line, the two groups work together like a machine, it requires full dedication of every player on the field to win a match not just one or two star-players. The passing, tackling, mauls and rucks make this sport stand out from the rest, But the teamwork and coordination is everything in this sport and when put together it is truly beautiful.
Another one they ask is why do women play rugby?, why not do something more feminine? Well my answer would be for the complete and utter love of sport, plus being a woman playing what is considered a ''mans'' game also shows that women can do all the things men can do just as well, if not better, a prime example being the Irish Women's Rugby team who won the Six Nations for the first time ever this year, they succeeded in promoting women in sport and made everybody in Ireland proud to be Irish.
When you step onto that pitch there is no better feeling, surrounded by your teammates, friends and family all cheering for your team, it drives you on to win.
So I play rugby for the reasons: Because it is an elegant fun game, the people you meet and the difference you can make, the success and the party after isn't too bad either. I would encourage everybody to give it a go, because there is a position and a job for people of all shapes and sizes and it makes you friends for life.
