Over 7 million soldiers died in world war 1. That's nearly twice the population of Ireland! Each soldier had a family and a life, memories and a personality. Most soldiers are remembered in memorial parks around Europe but lots of these graves have never even been visited. In France at the Thiepval memorial there are 73,000 soldiers that have no graves, as there was no body to bury. They just have their name engraved on a wall. Other soldiers were unidentifiable and don't even have their names on their own graves. It simply says 'A soldier of the great war'. Imagine if that was your great grandfather, all these soldiers deserve to be respected and remembered properly.
In the Somme battlefields in France there are 450 graveyards for the Allies, but there is only 6 German graveyards. These German soldiers were just fighting for their country like a soldier from any other nation, maybe they needed the money to support their family or maybe they just wanted to experience war. Don't they deserve the same respect ?
