I can't say I'm the biggest farmer in the world but I do enjoy a bit of occasional farm work. For me there's nothing better to bring back old memories than getting the fresh smell of silage on a warm summers day, as well as the excitement when you see all the tractors approaching. Or during the calving season when it was custom to call every second calf Daisy, not to be original or anything! Or the races across the bales we used to have, which seemed to us to be like the olympics.
Yet like anything, farming also has its good and bad points, the bad being called from bed on a Saturday morning saying "Come on, we're going dosing cattle!", and just the luck of it all, the day is bitterly cold and lashing rain, and then out of nowhere a heifer decides to charge for you! But all the same, farming for me is a bit of craic and enjoyment, and if you want to call a sibling flicking cow-dung at you with a stick family bonding, well then i suppose there's some of that there too!
