Last Saturday ,I was competing in a wrestling show (don't worry I'm not here to ramble about it like usual) and I was second on the card . After getting changed into my gear my partner and I and our opponents were waiting behind the curtain for our que. while waiting I was approached by all my friends wishing me good luck, be safe and what not. After my match (which I won but anyway ) I sat down to just compose myself as believe it or not we actually do get hit ,we just know what's coming, and I had a lot of laughs and felt genuinely happy, safe and at peace.
So why is this a big deal? Well because this locker room is full of of men , woman and teens of all different ages from 15-35 years of age, different backgrounds , story's and life's but we were all there laughing and doing something we love, together. After years of growing up and trying to fit in , hang with a certain group and look a certain way, I'm sitting in a roomful of people who genuinely love me for me and everyone for themselves , even when we are wearing stupid spandex , tights and running around pretending to hate each other while acting as a character. I don't know if this will mean anything to anyone else but for me it was a special moment of happiness , love and peace.
